A web host is a service provider that places your web site on a computer which is connected to the internet. The term for this computer’ is called a server.

If you plan to own a new website, you will need to host your website on a web server. When your website goes live on the web server, online users can then browse your website on the Internet. Company that provides the web servers to host your website is called web hosting providers.

A web hosting provider will typically have a fast connection to the Internet housed in a physical building called ‘data center’ and they may host thousands of web sites on many servers. The web host essentially rents out space to you so that you can get your website up on the world wide web.

Whether you are looking for business web hosting for a corporate site or cheap web hosting for a personal site, there are numerous web hosting provider that will help you to accomplish for the same. These web hosting services are an Internet based service offering online arrangements to store data, descriptions through Web. There are varied numbers of web hosting companies among which some provide free web hosting service while some charges a fee.Webhostingadvice.net offers advice for people of levels to assist in the process of choosing the best web hosting provider. Given the large amount of companies offering similar web hosting services, choosing a web host can be hard.Webhostingadvice.net has conveniently selected the TOP 10 most affordable web hosts and placed them in a comparison chart for your benefit.

One of the most important factors is bandwidth or transfer. Bandwidth or transfer is measured by multiplying the size of your site with the number of visitors you get a month. Our experience with web hosts is that even cheap web hosting services will provide you with more than enough bandwidth or transfer.

Disk space is a key factor which you will encounter right at the beginning of your journey onto the web. Bigger sites which contain heavy files (sound files, images etc.) will require more disk space than smaller, simpler sites. Most sites are between 10-20kb which is more than enough for nearly any web hosting provider.

Probably the most important concern for a beginner is support. Before choosing a web host, make sure that you are comfortable with level of support provided. A cheap web host may only offer email support whilst a more sophisticated yet affordable web hosting provider will provide live chat, online tutorials, 24 hour phone support and forums. For those intending to conduct business online, immediate support is crucial it can make or break your online business.

In addition to the above factors, you cannot avoid doing your own research. We encourage you to visit each host and analyze their services carefully. Many hosts offer a 30 day free trial period. This is a great way to test their service and make sure that it suits the needs of your website. Another suggestion is to speak to them personally and ask them the right questions about their service. You will be able to tell pretty quickly whether the particular host is responsive enough to your needs and is willing to accompany you in your online experience.

The web hosts that we’ve selected to put in the chart are the ones we believe are the all around best web hosting providers when taking all specifications into consideration including customer service and feedback. From our experience with these web hosts, they won’t let you down.

What makes any web site successful?
What makes any web site successful? What increases the number of your visitors, making them coming back again and again? What makes any web site successful? What increases the number of your visitors, making them coming back again and again?
The answer is simple – surely, web graphics on your web site! If you have a professional web design you may consider to have half the battle on the business battlefield!
Bright and efficient graphics on your web pages will catch an eye, help to promote your business, serve as your visiting card and generally make the first impression about your business and its owners.
The elements of graphics on your web site must be loaded simultaneously with the page and then be reflected properly in the web browser.
All the graphics elements should be placed in the same folder named IMG or images.
Then the IMG folder is copied into the html-pages catalogue.
Now the person involved in professional web deisgn and web development may think about how to implement the the image into the web pages.
We use the attribute SRC to specify the location of the image resource.
SRC stands for “source”. The value of the SRC attribute is the URL of the image you want to display on your page. In other words, the attribute SRC shows the file’s location.
Here is how the syntax of a defined image should look like:
where URL stands for image location (i.e. where the image is stored).
However, besides this one, there are other attributes responsible for different additional features related to image placement on the web pages.
The ALIGN attribute serves to align the graphics on your web page.
The attribute allows two values assigned – left and right.
The value LEFT makes the web browser place an image on the left of the text as well as the value RIGHT allows to place the image on the right relative to the text.
You should note that if the attribute ALIGN has already been used to align the text relative to the graphics on your specified page, you will not be allowed to set the parameters of text flow around the image.
The attribute ALIGN allows to place the text between two graphical images. In this case the tags describing the image shall be placed over the text that is to be enclosed between them.
The ALT attribute helps to add comments that will be reflected if the web browser cannot load the graphics on your web page. The attributes WIDTH & HEIGHT help to assign the width and the height of the image you are placing.
However, these attributes are not recommended to be used for the images in jpg format since an incorrect value assignment may result in deterioration of graphics quality.
So before you insert any graphics on your web pages you should correct its parameters with the help of any graphics editor.
If the while background of the page is not what you really want, you can put any graphical background on your page with the help of the attribute BACKGROUND of the tag .
Since the web browser automatically places the image copies the way they fill in the whole page, so the image you apply for your background may be done small in size.
You should remember that while creating a graphical background of your page you should use such images that provide interesting visual effects and at the same time that would not disturb your customers from reading the text itself.
For example, placing a text on the page with tiger background would result in lost of interest to your content since the reading would be completely uncomfortable in this case.
A good image being repeated multiple times looks smooth, without any seams or joints.
Don’t forget to pay attention to the color and size of your font if you make a graphical background to achieve absolute easiness in reading.
The attribute BORDER helps the designers to assign the frame’s size around the graphical image.
Experienced web graphic designers recommend to use gif format for graphics web site elements such as menus and banners and for jpg format for full-color images.
Anyway, whatever you apply, keep in mind the fact that you are creating your professional web design for your potential customers and your web site should be easy to use from the point of web graphic design and web development.

nefits of buying Web Hosting in Mexico

Web Hosting is also called Hospedaje Web in spanish, many companies around the world offer web hosting, the industry behind hosting have grown a big way in the past years, and the reason is simple: every web page that is designed in the world needs a web host, you can imagine now how a good bussines is to sale web page hosting. There are other companies thats offer free web page hosting and they obtain utilities by inserting publicity in the web pages they host.

Most of the web hosting providers are located in USA or other countrys around the world, they give reasonable prices but they offer bad customer support, this is because big hosting providers do not have personalized support and they use an automatized structure of bussines.

Small web hosting providers, in the other hand, can offer the same reasonable prices but a much personalized support because they can know who you are and how many email accounts you manage, etc. so this give this medium-small companies a wide range of customers that need better fast response.

Now the point of this article is to explain why it is better to buy a web hosting plan in a Mexican Company.

So lets move with that, Mexico is a very fast growing country, they have tecnology, nature resources, and working people like other countrys, the diference is that Mexico have all this but their costs are very low and their services are much better, for example, a USA Web Hosting Company needs to have a good profit to survive, a Mexican Company needs like 10 times less profit for the same purpose, so the cost of any service in Mexico is 10 time more cheaper that the same service in USA.

Web hosting is not the exception and Mexican companies have a good service, good prices, and above all, they have a personalized attention and support, if you have a technical problem they can answer the phone and resolve it immediatly, because the number of clients that Mexican hosting providers manage is a fraction of the big ones arund the world.

Attention of Mexican People are pure quality compared with the cold suppport that offer other big companies, the reason is very simple, a company that have to pay each employe a minimun of $3000 USD, have to reduce the number of people giving support, and that way they reduce costs. The solution for those companies is to make an automated ticket system, so you are never going to speak with anybody, you only send a ticket and later you receive a response, this can take days or weeks in some cases.

Mexican Companies in the other hand, have more budget for employes, because one support emplooye takes only $400 USD a month, like ten time less comparing with americans so those companies can have, without a problem, 10 times more support team.

If you now are convinced to contract a Mexican company for a good hosting, I can recomend you to search the next keywords in google to find companies that offer this service

Comon terms for web hosting in spanish

Once you have searched, you will find many companies in the list, you can chose the one you find more affordable to your needs.

I hope this article have open your bussines inteligence to a new group of companies with high quality in the market and above all with excelente prices and service,I wish you luck in your internet bussines!

Sincerily, Alejandro Chavez Marketing Leader and Web designer

There are four main steps you must take in order to build a successful Web site:

1. Select your target market or audience

2. Create your site

3. Monetize your site

4. Promote your site

Depending on the purpose of your Web site – whether to support an off-line business, to sell your products on-line, to generate passive income from affiliate programs or other advertising, or simply to share your interest in a hobby or profession – your definition of “success” can include many different things. However, there is one thing that any Web site or blog must have in order to be “successful,” and that is traffic. Therefore, you must do all four key steps with a view to generating appropriate traffic.

So let’s look into each of these four steps in more detail. What do I mean by each of them, and what should you do at each step? Along the way, I’ll also get into more detail about what I mean by appropriate traffic.

Also bear in mind that this is a continually repeating process. On the Web, you never reach a point where you just sit back and leave your Web site to stand on its own. You must constantly review and adjust your appeal to your target market, the Web site content you are creating, how your site is monetized, and how you promote your site.

Selecting your Market

The first thing to think about is, who in the vast world of the Internet are you addressing? To define the audience you want to reach, begin with your own interests and passions. But it’s not enough to be interested, passionate, and knowledgeable about a subject. If you are to have a successful Web site, you must determine whether enough other people are also interested, and whether their needs are being adequately addressed. You will probably have to define a specialized niche within the broader market.

The best way to do all that is by conducting good keyword research. Suppose, for example, you are an expert on caring for babies. A little keyword research will reveal that although there are dozens of searches on the Web each day for the term “baby care,” there are over fourteen million Web sites matching that term. Why would a typical Web surfer pick your site from among those fourteen million others? Further keyword research will show you that there are about a dozen searches each day for the term “polypropylene baby bottle care tips,” and only one site on the Web addressing this term. You have identified a specialty that is perhaps not being addressed adequately.

(Incidentally, those are actual numbers from cursory keyword research I did while writing this article. They will change with time, of course. My past experience suggests that this article will soon begin appearing to match the specialized term I used as an example, even though this article is not really about that subject.)

Now, maybe you’re not passionate enough about the subject to start building a Web site devoted to the care of polypropylene baby bottles, but you get the idea. From within the broadest definition of your interests, find a specialty:

* A specialty that keyword research reveals to be of general interest

* A specialty that is not a saturated market

* A specialty that you want to address

Creating your Site

Once you have carefully researched your audience, you can begin creating your Web site or blog. There are many detailed steps within this larger step, and many variations along the way, but here are the main ones to consider:

1. Choose an effective name for your site.

2. Create rich Web site content.

A successful Web site must have a name (domain name) that is memorable and clearly related to the subject matter of the site.

You have a disadvantage when it comes to choosing relevant terms. You’re the expert on the subject, which means that you do not view the subject the same way as the non-expert who is looking for information. What terms do they consider relevant?

Keyword research is again your best tool. Look at what people are searching for when they end up finding Web sites like the one you are building. Then choose your domain name accordingly. To continue the previous example, you might think “infant care,” while most people are searching for “baby care.”

Create your Web site name from relevant, commonly-used search terms (keywords), and you’ll draw in the traffic.

This gets us into the notion of “appropriate” traffic that I mentioned earlier. Your keyword research might suggest that “polypropylenebabybottlecaretipscom” will bring in lots of traffic, but if your Web site is about the merits of breast feeding, you will bring in visitors who are not interested in your subject matter. This causes two huge problems:

1. You will not get the visitors you really want

2. You will antagonize the visitors who do come to your site.

Some of the same ideas apply to the content of your Web site. I suggest that you simply write the Web site content that you think people are interested in, writing in the terms that come naturally to you, then optimize its use of keywords after you’ve written it.

Monetizing your Site

Strange as it may seem, you usually must first publish your Web site before you can monetize it. Most of the better affiliate programs and advertising networks (such as Google Adsense) will want an opportunity to look at your Web site before they approve you as a member of their program.

If you plan to monetize by selling your own products, you have a great many details to consider, which are beyond the scope of this article. Among other things, you need to work out how you will process payments and how you will route orders for fulfillment. For our immediate purposes, the main consideration is that you need to write the content of your sales pages using effective marketing and sales language.

If you plan to monetize only by displaying contextual advertisements, there’s not much to it. Find an effective, reputable carrier (search for “contextual advertising”), understand their rules and requirements regarding the placement of their ads on your pages, and place the ads!

In between those two methods is advertising via affiliate programs. If you plan to make money with affiliate links, you must include some mention of the products you are recommending, but it can be less “salesy” and more informative.

There is an important implication in that last paragraph about affiliate programs: You have to change your Web site content in order to make proper use of the affiliate links. And as you change your Web site content, you should review it to make sure it is still using effective keywords.

Promoting your Site

There are worlds within worlds of information about how to promote your site. For our purposes, the main thing to keep in mind is that you need to think about how you will promote your Web site in conjunction with how you do the rest of these steps.

Remember who your target audience or market is, and promote your site in a way that will reach that same target audience. Among other things, this means that your promotion plans must be based on the same keyword research that you used to build your Web site content. For instance, if you are using article marketing, which is perhaps the most cost effective way to promote your site, the articles must use the same keywords as you used in your Web site’s content. Likewise, if you are using a pay-per-click (PPC) campaign, you must base your search engine advertisements on keywords that are also used in your Web site content, so that once a visitor clicks on your ad, they will stay on your site because it is exactly what they were looking for.

The Cycle

Once you have done all four of these steps, go back and do them again, continually:

* No, you don’t need to select your target audience all over again, but you do need to repeat that keyword research from time to time. Are you still offering what people are looking for? Is there another specialty emerging which you can address?

* No, you don’t need to create your site all over again, but you do need to update your site’s content all the time. Stagnation is death. Fresh content keeps you at the top of the search engine result lists, and keeps the traffic coming.

* You don’t necessarily want to repeat the whole process of monetizing your Web site, but you should review your programs from time to time. Add new affiliate or contextual advertising programs (but be careful to avoid displaying competitive ads that one or another of your programs may disallow). Discontinue any affiliate or contextual advertising programs that aren’t working for you.

* Above all, you need to repeat your promotional efforts all the time. Once you get past your original roll-out, create a schedule for yourself such that you launch a new campaign on a regular basis. Just as with content, stagnation is death.

Conclusion

Perhaps you noticed the recurring theme in most of these four steps: Keyword research. You must be in touch with what the Web community is looking for in order to provide a Web site that meets their needs, and in order to let them know that it is what they’re looking for.

Create your Web site name and its content using the right keywords, and you will have a door. Promote your site using those same keywords, and the appropriate users will beat a path to your door.

But the Web is a dynamic place. The hot keywords of today will be old and tired tomorrow. In order to have continued success with your Web site, you must continually repeat the process of identifying your market, maintaining fresh content, monetizing your site, and promoting your site.

Your definition of success with your Web site depends on the purpose of your Web site. But whether the purpose is to support an off-line business, to sell your products on-line, to generate passive income from affiliate programs or other advertising, or simply to share your interest in a hobby or profession, your Web site will need appropriate traffic. And in order to draw traffic, you must first think very carefully about what need your Web site addresses. Who will visit your Web site, and why will they choose your Web site out of all the millions of Web sites out there?

You need to define the market or audience you want to address, and you need to assess whether that market is already being addressed.

Assessing the market for your Web site idea is something of a Goldilocks decision:

* Some markets are too small

* Some markets are too big

* Some markets are just right

Obviously, you want that “just right” market, but how do you identify it?

Keyword Research

The main tool is keyword research. Keyword research will tell you two crucial things about the wide world of the Web:

1. What are people looking for?

2. What are people finding?

You need to discover what people are looking for on the Internet that is relevant to your great idea. Sure, you think it’s a great idea, but does anybody else? Is there a need for it? Is anybody really looking for whatever it is you intend to offer? Good keyword research can tell you what they’re looking for, and what specific terms they are using in their searching.

Once you know what Web surfers are looking for, you need to know what they are finding. The point here is that you need to know how much competition you will be facing.

There are two main things you can do when faced with competition:

1. Out-market the competition.

2. Avoid the competition by choosing a different market (or, preferably, a specialized slice of the market).

Keyword research won’t help you much on that first option. Competing in a saturated market will require money, time, and luck. Lots and lots of all three. (Good luck.)

Most of us are richer in great ideas than in greenbacks, so the second option is the only way to go.

Keyword research will help you with this, too. And it will identify both the market and the competition in one operation.

Specialize to Avoid Competition

Let’s take a particular example. Suppose you are an expert on tuataras.

(Don’t know what a tuatara is? It doesn’t matter. It’s just an example of a subject somebody might be interested in. I intentionally chose a term with ridiculously low search engine value, so that this article will not “hijack” too much traffic. Apologies to all those seeking information about tuataras. (a) No, I didn’t make it up, and (b) if you actually are interested in creating a Web site about tuataras, here’s a little free keyword research.)

Preliminary keyword research indicates that there are about 150 searches per month for terms that include the word “tuatara.” (That’s not good, but let’s go with this example.) Further research shows that there are well over 400,000 Web pages out there that have something to do with tuataras. This means that the keyword “tuatara” by itself is not of much value. There is some interest in it on the part of Web surfers, but that interest is being adequately met by nearly half a million Web pages. The “keyword effectiveness index” (KEI *) for the word “tuatara” is an abysmal 0.03 (as of the date of this writing).

(* Side note. “KEI,” a numerical value based on popularity and competitiveness of a search term, is the subject of many articles all by itself. Virtually all keyword research tools will report the KEI of each term.)

But what’s that on the list? The term “diagram of tuatara” was searched 18 times this month, and there is only one page on the entire Web that matches. This term has a KEI of 169 (as of the date of this writing) which is very good, and by far the highest KEI of any term having to do with tuataras.

So, this can be your specialty. If you can build the greatest Web site in the world relating to diagrams of tuataras, you can compete with that other Web page for all 18 of those users. You can study the competing pages (or page) to make sure that you have the very best tuatara diagram page out there, and that you keep it that way.

I hope you get the idea: Use keyword research to determine whether there really is an interest out there for the Web site you envision, and use it to identify specialized areas of interest that are not overly competitive. And for most areas of interest, you will find more than one search term with a KEI of greater than 100 that you can use to choose your specialty.

When you Must Generalize

But what if you were the poor unfortunate whose passion and expertise really are in a subject like tuataras, for which there is effectively no interest on the Web? You’re not going to generate enough revenue to pay your domain hosting fees from 18 visitors per month.

In effect, a situation like this is telling you that your original great idea wasn’t so great. But rather than just give up, you can continue your research to find related ideas that might work better.

What you need to do is to generalize a bit. Instead of tuataras, do a little keyword research on “reptiles.” (Yes, a tuatara is a reptile.) Here you may find that there is plenty of interest, relevant search terms that are used many thousands of times each month, and you can narrow in again on specialties that are less competitive. Maybe you will find high KEI on search terms related to captive breeding of endangered reptiles, and you can build your Web site around that.

It’s not exactly the great idea you started with, but it’s close enough to keep your enthusiasm going, and there is a market that you can serve.

Next Steps

Now, take a deep breath, and consider carefully all the powerful things you can do with the results of your keyword research. This will set the direction for how your original great idea for a Web site will become a genuinely successful Web site. This keyword research will give you:

* Ideas for an effective domain name.

* Ideas for effective titles for your Web pages.

* Ideas for effective descriptions of your Web pages.

* Ideas for content of your Web pages, to help you focus your expertise onto the particular specialty you have identified.

* Ideas for articles you can write and publish to help drive traffic to your Web site.

* Keywords you can use in a “Pay Per Click” (PPC) campaign.

Look what happened! Your original great idea has become a whole flock of ideas, just waiting for you to act on them.

All of those things are the subjects of other articles.

The important thing to remember from this article is this: Before you act on your great idea for a Web site, do some research to determine whether other people will think it’s a great idea, and refine your idea into something that you can turn into a successful Web site.

Our experience with web hosts is that even cheap web hosting services will provide you with more than enough bandwidth or transfer.Disk space is a key factor which you will encounter right at the beginning of your journey onto the web. Bigger sites which contain heavy files (sound files, images etc.) will require more disk space than smaller, simpler sites. Most sites are between 10-20kb which is more than enough for nearly any web hosting provider.Probably the most important concern for a beginner is support.

Choosing Your First Linux Web Host

Choosing your first Web host is an important decision. You will, hopefully, have a long relationship with whatever host you choose. To make a decision, first you need to decide that what you need and then visit the sites of several hosting providers and evaluate what they are offering in regarding your requirements. If you choose wisely you should get good value for your money, consistency and prompt well-informed support. Get a Good Linux Web Host at OnSmart.net

Linux and its predecessor UNIX and Windows 2000 and its close relate Windows NT are types of operating systems that web servers use to do its operations.

In most of the cases Linux Web Hosting Account is recommended because Linux is considered as more reliable, stable and more universally compatible with any operating system. This is due to the functionality and speed of the Linux operating platform. Without any doubt, Linux is far more stable than Windows in a shared-server, or multi-user environment. Get a Good Linux Web Host at OnSmart.net (http://www.onsmart.net )

On the other hand, if you know that you will be using Microsoft applications extensively, or you plan on developing extensively using FrontPage, especially FrontPage 2002, MS SQL, ASP.NET or if you are looking for E-commerce add- ons or you will be using high-end databases then Windows/NT Hosting is the right choice for you. But if you are looking for universal compatibility regardless of the operating system the end user has, Linux has the ability to run a much wider variety of custom scripts and programs than Windows 2000/NT, and it offers easier, lower-cost set-up for advanced applications such as CGI scripts, databases.

Under Linux web hosting operating system, there is, database, server software and gathering of coding. Linux is the most preferred and demanded operating system because of its features and vigorous environment and it is the next best alternative to Microsoft and UNIX operating system. Linux is widely used and chosen worldwide due to its permanent network and server operating system. Linux operating system and APACHE web server, MYSQL database, PHP server coding applications are clustered under one roof that is Linux web hosting and for this, it is also known as LAMP server. The most reliable web hosting under web based applications is the Linux, and Apache is grabbing the market of Microsoft servers according to a survey over million of sites. Get a Good Linux Web Host at OnSmart.net

Advantages of Choosing Linux Based Web Host

Following are the advantages of using Linux based web server compared to Windows based web server:

1. Stable:

Linux/Unix operating systems has traditionally been believed to be very stable and robust. A web site housed on a Linux operating system will have very high up-time (of the order of 99.9%). Of course, other factors such as power supply, network admin skills, and network load etc. also matter when it comes to maintaining the system uptime.

2. Low cost of ownership:

The Linux OS comes free of cost (or at very insignificant cost, usually cost of distribution). Also, it has full fledged server, and desk top applications that comes free along with the OS. These server applications (such as FTP, Web Server, DNS Server, File Server etc.) being free, are also very stable.

3. Ease of use:

When it comes to web hosting, it is easy to host on Linux web servers. The process of uploading and hosting is almost same for both Linux and Windows web servers. If you want to use a Windows based tool such as Front Page for uploading a web site on to a Linux based web server, make sure that the Front Page extensions are enabled. This is only required if you are uploading using HTTP feature of Front Page. Front Page also makes it possible to upload a web site using FTP. Note that if you select “Front Page Extensions” during web site design, you must enable Front Page extensions on a Linux web server also. You can use almost all types of file extensions or scripts when using Linux web server. Commonly, the following extensions are supported: .cgi, .html, .htm, .pl, .php, .shtml, .xml, and others. Basically it means that you can host web sites that use different types of server side scripts including .cgi, .pl, .php, and .asp with plug-in. Get a Good Linux Web Host at OnSmart.net

4. Easy to move between hosts:

A web site designed to be hosted on a Linux based web server can be hosted on a Windows web server easily, where as the reverse is not always true. Most widely used: Linux/Unix based web hosting is most widely used compared to Windows based web hosting.

5. Scalability:

A web site is dynamic. Usually, a web site starts with a few pages of html and grows over a period of time to suit the customers requirements. It is preferable to design a web site keeping these requirements in mind. A web site designed for compatibility with a Linux/Unix based web server meets the scalability requirement easily without making any site wide design changes. On the downside, Linux based web server is not fully compatible with Microsoft technologies. If you are using any specialized applications or VB for development of your web site, it is preferable to host with a Windows based web server.

About Author :

OnSmart.net offers Premium Reseller Hosting, Web Hosting, and Dedicated Server solutions with 24/7 Support and 99.9% Uptime at an affordable price.

Web 2.0 doesnt have a hard cold definition the truth; it means different things to different people. So lets start out historically for a second.

Tim OReilly, the founder and CEO of OReilly Media, Inc., thought by many to be the best computer book publisher in the world, and an activist for open standards, wrote in a October 2005 article, The bursting of the dot-com bubble in the fall of 2001 marked a turning point for the web. Many people concluded that the web was over hyped, when in fact bubbles and consequent shakeouts (a major change in an organization or system resulting in some streamlining) appear to be a common feature of all technological revolutions. Shakeouts typically mark the point at which an ascendant technology is ready to take its place at center stage. The pretenders are given the bums rush, the real success stories show their strength, and there begins to be an understanding of what separates one from the other.

Tim continues, The concept of Web 2.0 began with a conference brainstorming session between OReilly and MediaLive International. Dale Dougherty, web pioneer and OReilly VP, noted that far from having crashed, the web was more important than ever, with exciting new applications and sites popping up with surprising regularity. Whats more, the companies that had survived the collapse seemed to have some things in common. Could it be that the dot-com collapse marked some kind of turning point for the web, such that a call to action such as Web 2.0 might make sense? We agreed that id did, and so the Web 2.0 Conference was born.

According to OReilly and many others, they agree there are eight core Web 2.0 design patterns to evaluate if a site is worthy of the Web 2.0 name. But keep in mind that each example they have investigated exhibits one or more of the key principles. So in other words, one site may have six out of eight of the core patterns, or three out of eight, etc. but still is worthy enough to carry the Web 2.0 name.

When people talk about Web 2.0 they may think it is a just about social networking and others look at Web 2.0 from a technological aspect (but according to Scott Prager, an IBM Engineer – He comments that one of the common mistakes people make, is if they use this technology then its Web 2.0, be Scott thinks its more about what enables rather than what technology its built with). Either way you look at it; there is a set core of characteristics build into a Web 2.0 pattern. So in other words, its just not about social networking or technology its really about that and more.

Technologies important to Web 2.0: Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), XML and HTML, REST (Representational State Transfer), RSS (Really Simple Syndication), Atom, Tagging, also playing a large role in Web 2.0 companies are, API (least used, but important to know), Perl, Python, PHP, Ruby etc.

Lets go over the eight characteristics:

New Media Marketing: a term to describe the building and managing of social networks and online or virtual communities, and extend the reach of marketing to the low-frequency, low-intensity consumer in a cost effective way.

Buzz Marketing: The strategic use of word of mouth, the transmission of commercial information from person to person in an online or real-world environment.

Viral Marketing: The intentional spreading of marketing messages using social networks, with an emphasis of the casual, non-intentional and low cost.

As you can see Web 2.0 isnt as simple as social networking or just about the technical side. Its a broad range of characteristics that build a Web 2.0 site.
